Today’s Creature Feature is considered the “bumper cars of the beetle world.” They secrete a smelly substance that deters predators, their eyes are split; half under and half above allowing them to see two views at the same time. They tuck an air bubble under their wings when they dive and fly to reach the next pond.
There are many more strange facts about these predators, check out https://uwm.edu/field-station/whirligig-beetle/. These are just some of the amazing creatures that call the Santa Fe River home. Keep our waters clean and healthy, say no to plastics and be careful what you spill; for everything runs downstream, into our water, into their home.
