FINAL VOTE ON THE SEVEN SPRINGS/NESTLE PERMIT
The Suwannee River Water Management District will hold a special meeting on Feb. 23 and, if necessary, finish on Feb. 24, 2021. This will be our last opportunity to voice our opinion to the Board of Directors who will decide the vote.
Something new for the District is the availability of livestreaming here: https://thefloridachannel.org/
Under these current circumstances, public participation will be most beneficial done online.
However, there is a great opportunity to participate before your workday in person at 8:15 until 9 am, when the Board meeting begins. This rally will be used for press scenes protesting the Board vote. Bring a sign or we will have one for you to hold. Be prepared to social distance and masks required, even though the protest will be outside.
Address is 9225 CR 49, LIVE OAK, FL, headquarters for the SRWMD.
Many people have contacted the Board members by sending written comments to the District and by sending postcards. We know that approximately 19,000 emails were sent to the District opposing the permit and we think hundreds of postcards were received there. What we do not know is how many if any of these messages were personally read by board members. OSFR members have reminded the Board multiple time of the emails’ existence and their obligation to be aware of public input.

No. Leave the water alone. Stop damaging natural resources and hoarding water to sell that belongs to everyone.
Merrillee: Is the protest both days?
Just Tuesday morning, 8:15
During droughts and dry times of the year, there is not enough water for the ecosystem. There may a lot of water this season, but we can’t be shortsighted and protect our springs and rivers for the harsh times.
Taking water from a spring and selling it in bottles to the public makes no sense…if the city water isn’t safe, then make it safe…plastic from bottles leach into the water and is unhealthy to the public…also the plastic bottles do not biodegrade and are an environmental waste problem.
Besides the fact that plastic water bottles are a huge waste problem, we should be concentrating on improving public water supplies.
I registered to make a comment, but never got a text box to actually make that comment. I work on the 23rd and 24th. How do I get my comment heard? I don’t understand how that system works.
Teresa, the meeting begins at 9 am. There will be a discussion on how the meeting will be held virtually and some in person, you may want to hear that so you can understand the process. They will be calling names as they arrive in their sign up portal. Or at least that is how it has been done in these meetings. Your comment may be taken by you speaking into your phone or maybe through your computer after you hear your name is called. If there is a online computer component to this meeting, that will be a new format for public meetings from this government agency. The District will send you a link to sign into. It is best to keep the meeting on, background if possible, for those have other things they do at home or work.
