Oscar Corral, who made the award-winning documentary “Fellowship of the Springs,” now has an interview with Dr. Bob Knight of the Florida Springs Institute in High Springs. Corral recognizes the state-sponsored devastation of Florida’s springs and rivers and is helping to expose this to the public.
That our state agencies such as the Department of Environmental Protection and the five water management districts, all sustained by taxpayers, should be intentionally allowing our rivers and springs to go dry is a concept generally unknown to Florida’s citizens.
This is especially true because these very agencies put out self-serving statements about how they are protecting our waters. They do this so the public will not realize what is actually happening and so they can justify their deception and existence.
And what is happening is that our rivers run slower, our springs pump less, and both become more polluted every year. This is because just about any kind of taxpaying business can pump water and dump fertilizer on the ground with the state’s blessing and with few limitations. Industry over environment.
Knight, Corral and a few environmentalists in Florida are exposing this and fighting.
Trying to vote in a few good people has not worked. Their voices are drowned out by Agriculture, developers, water bottlers and industry in general.
More reason we need to vote in the Right to Clean and Healthy Waters amendment.
