We have posted before on Maya Van Rossum and her work on amendments.  Some time back Maya spoke to the local chapter of Sierra Club, Suwannee St. Johns Group in Gainesville.  She is an enthusiastic and forceful speaker with a strong passion for her mission.

Her latest work is especially apt for Florida because we have the Right to Clean Water amendment to the Florida Constitution in the works for the 2024 elections.  If you have not signed this petition please do so and encourage your friends to sign also.

This may be the only thing which saves Florida’s waters, as it is outrageously  obvious that our DEP and the water management districts have not the slightest intention of doing that.  Throwing salt in the wounds is the fact that they pretend to do so while deliberately deceiving the public.

Why green amendments in state constitutions are so important to environmental protection.

If you or your organization would like to have a solid grasp of WHY “we need a new pathway for environmental protection,” please make the time to listen to Maya van Rossum of Green Amendments For The Generations (recently hosted by USF Patel College of Global Sustainability).

For decades, activists have relied on federal and state legislation to fight for a cleaner environment. And for decades, they’ve been fighting a losing battle. The sad truth is, our laws are designed to accommodate pollution and legalize environmental degradation rather than prevent them. We all have the right to pure water, clean air, and a healthy environment. It’s time to claim that right, for our own sake and that of future generations.

We thought you’d be interested in Maya’s nationwide perspective and legal take, spelling out exactly why green amendments like Florida’s Right to Clean and Healthy Waters is so necessary, especially when looking forward to potential US Supreme Court decisions affecting the EPA, Clean Water Act and other legislation.

Also, FYI: The Green Amendment book (by Maya) will be released 11/1/2022, with 100% of the proceeds from the sale of The Green Amendment going right to https://forthegenerations.org/the-green-amendment/.
