Unexpected but much appreciated by OSFR was the Organization of the year award from the Florida Springs Council, given at the Springs Summit banquet. The award was directed to and accepted by Merrillee Malwitz-Jipson, who is our representative to the Council.
Merrillee was a co-founder of Our Santa Fe River and served multiple terms as president, has been a board member for many years and always a leader in the organization. She has led the battle against water bottling plants, especially against Nestle/Blue Triton and has brought us to an international presence with her work.
Among her many innovations is the annual and very successful Songwriter Contest which has resulted in nearly 100 songs written and recorded about the Santa Fe.
Among those present to witness our award were President Kristin Rubin and current board members Rhonda Long, Jim Tatum and of course Merrillee. Past board member Jane Blais was also present as were many supporters such as John Moran, Sarah Younger, advisor Bob Knight and others.
Merrillee’s place of business, the popular Rum 138, a kayak livery & sales and art gallery, serves as OSFR’s headquarters and base of operations.
OSFR has been blessed by a series of truly exceptional presidents for our leadership, and many hard-working volunteers who give tirelessly of their time and talents. Our success in fund raising enables us to support many worthy causes directed toward our rivers, springs and the environment.
These dedicated people have truly made a difference.
