I like to go on the river and mount my camera on the bow of my boat and recording the sights and sounds of the river. This clip was taken on the upper Santa Fe, an area frequently ignored since it is above the Cody escarpment and the clear running springs that are frequented on the lower Santa Fe, below the sink at O’Leno. Having said that, it’s important to note that Santa Fe Spring and Worthington Springs which reside on the upper Santa Fe were once known as clear and flowing. Worthington has lost it’s flow and Santa Fe Springs is a dark water spring.

Springs are known to change from clear and flowing to tannic and still, based on land management, nutrient run-off, and increased water withdrawals. This is why all our water-centered environmental groups like Our Santa Fe River, Inc. , Ichetucknee Alliance, and the Florida Springs Council, are advocating for protections; we can loose all our beautiful clear springs by mismanaging our resources.
