OSFR President Kristin Rubin has written the following news about our upcoming board meeting at 6:30 on Wednesday, January 26, 2022.

—————

We are seeing a lull in the number of boats on the river, the waters are lower due to the almost non-existent rainwater in the recent months and the lower temperatures, but there is no lull in the boaters disregard for safety to others, including the animals and fish that live in our rivers, nor to the riverbank’s flora due to erosion.

To address these issues OSFR has invited Susan Dailey as our guest speaker this month.
I have asked Susan to write a little bit about herself and what she wants to share with us.
She is relatively new to this area and to OSFR.

“I have lived in Florida for 62 years. I have always enjoyed the waterways Florida has to offer. In the 90’s I began a career in Law Enforcement. Approximately ten of those years I spent as a Marine Officer. I enforced marine laws, promoted boater safety and the protection of marine wildlife. I investigated and prosecuted derelict vessels cases. I also investigated hundreds of boating accidents. I worked in a county with approximately fifty thousand registered boats, not to include seasonal boaters. Also commercial fisheries.

I will start with boater safety!! The dangers of the river because it’s so narrow.
I would also like to add what I have seen over the years, how the environment is affected, how fast it can happen. Also how fast the population is exploding in the area which can have catastrophic effects on the grasses, water pollution etc.
Lastly, there needs to be a plan in place to educate boaters”

We welcome Susan to OSFR and for helping us understand the needs for our waterways.
