Governor DeSantis has failed to keep Florida free, healthy, and thriving. This legislative
session only furthers that failure. He has chosen to serve his own ambitions with political
stunts rather than actually governing….

Thanks to Sierra Club and the Suwannee/St Johns Group for the following information.

Those with the power to fix Florida’s water problems bear immense responsibility to do so. The Suwannee River Water Management District (along with the other four districts), the DEP and the Florida Legislature are in this group, along with local governments and county commissioners.

When these people put personal interests or lobbying payoffs ahead of these issues they are betraying the people of Florida and must not be excused.

On a happy note, if you are so inclined, please send a thank you to those wise and honest politicians who championed our environmental causes in the face of unfair opposition.  Here are the names and links:

Rep. Yvonne Hayes Hinson, Rep. Anna V. Eskamani, Senate Minority Leader Lauren Book, and Rep. Fentrice Driskell.

On the negative note, keep in mind that finding people like the above is really difficult, and the plan to fix our water problems by voting out the bad guys and putting new good ones in is just not working.  There are too many temptations for too many weak-charactered people in Tallahassee.

Because our biased and corrupt Supreme Court of the United States very unwisely made bribery legal,  we think fairness in politics is doomed until Citizens United is reversed.  Meanwhile, in Florida we can fix this by voting in Florida’s Right to Clean and Healthy Water on the next ballot.

This is critical to combat people like DeSantis, Kathleen Passidomo, Paul Renner and others  and agencies like SRWMD, the DEP and others.

  1. I know the use of the word “Tallahassee” in this context actually refers to the governor and elected representatives sent there by Florida’s 67 counties, but sentences like: “There are too many temptations for too many weak-charactered people in Tallahassee.” could be improved for accuracy and clarity if you substituted the words “weak-charactered people we keep electing locally and sending to Tallahassee.” The many problems with legislative priorities and political corruption you outlined in the article don’t originate in Tallahassee, they are brought there by the people elected from all over Florida. All politics is local.

  2. What lobbying payoffs are WMD and FDEP employees receiving, and what personal interests are they putting ahead of the public interests?
